Updated Women's Track & Field Records
HILLSDALE, Mich. – Hillsdale completed the seasonal sweep at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Champions that were conducted over the weekend.
The Chargers officially joined their softball team, the No. 4 seed in the tournament bracket, to officially celebrate a new championship title on Saturday with 216.5 points in the final standings.
Hillsdale’s women have enjoyed quite a 2017-18 campaign, its first year in the Great Midwest, with championship trophies for cross country, volleyball, basketball, indoor and outdoor track and field and tennis.
Hillsdale College served as host once again for the outdoor meet at Ken Herrick Stadium after holding the indoor conference meet in the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center. And identical to the men, the women did their part by breaking 15 meet records out of 21 possible events.
Thirteen schools competed as the Chargers held off the Walsh women and the Cavaliers were the runner-up with 180 points. Findlay was third and Malone placed fourth while Ursuline rounded out the top five teams.
Hillsdale’s Chloe Ohlgren and Rachael Tolsma helped the Chargers in field events with first-place finishes in the triple jump and hammer throw, both new recording official all-time conference records. HC freshman Carmen Botha also shattered her own overall record in the 400-meter hurdles and senior All-American Hannah McIntyre took first prize in the 10K distance.
Sophomore Abbie Porter also won the 800-meter race, setting a new conference meet record in an event with the overall best time in DII by Cedarville’s Carsyn Koch in 2016.

Zalonya ‘Zoe’ Eby repeated as
Great Midwest Freshman of the Meet to match her award won during the indoor event. Eby broke the all-time overall conference record and meet record in the 200-meter dash, placed second as part of the 4x400-meter relay grouping and was third in the 100-meter dash.
The
Great Midwest Track Athlete of the Meet was senior
Sarah Berger of Walsh. Her impact was stamped with first-place finishes in the 3K steeplechase and the 1,500-meter run, both new conference meet records. She also contributed to a third-place team finish in the 4x400-meter relay as anchor.
Another Findlay Oiler accepted
Great Midwest Field Athlete of the Meet honors and this time it was impressive sophomore
Hannah Hahler. Hahler set a new overall conference and championship record in the shot put.
She also was runner-up in the discus and placed third in the hammer throw.
Lake Erie’s Hailey Nielsen defended her title in the heptathlon after also winning the indoor edition. Walsh two-time field athlete of the week Kaitlyn Barber earned the title in the pole vault. Senior Milani Glass of Findlay emerged as the 100-meter hurdles champ with a new championship record.
