The eight-team Great Midwest Softball Championship is set to commence Thursday morning with two different fields in play. Forecasted pending rain and thunderstorms will be tracked closely throughout the duration of the tournament.
Games start at 10 a.m. ET and the next set of contests in the winner’s bracket will get underway at noon ET.
Trevecca had eight total all-conference selections, including three first-team picks, to lead all schools while Ohio Dominican had six. The regular-season title trophy was also presented to the Yellow Jackets of Cedarville, who enter this year’s conference tourney as the No.1 seed for the second season in a row.
Great Midwest Freshman of the Year Jessie Rock of Walsh also earned first-team all-conference accolades as a catcher. Rock made it look easy in her first season at the college level as she batted .433 with 19 doubles, six home runs and 36 RBI. Her slugging percentage of .738 was a league-leading total for the Cavaliers.
Great Midwest Player of the Year MaKray Odom of Trevecca capped off a sensational sophomore campaign as she sported a .475 batting average that ranked second in the conference. Odom was the league leader in hits (1.74 per game) and similarly ranks high in other categories while wielding a dangerous bat. Odom still has two years left to continue to improve and make a run at certain conference records.
Great Midwest Pitcher of the Year Abby Lamping of Ohio Dominican helped decide the coaches decision with a 14-8 record, 2.15 ERA and 88 strikeouts amassed over 146.1 innings. Lamping, just a junior, was also the conference pitcher of the week and helped the Panthers land the third seed in the conference tournament bracket.
In her third season at the helm
Great Midwest Coach of the Year Danielle Lowe was recognized by her peers. Lowe helped the Oilers to a 27-20 overall record and a second-place finish in the regular-season standings.
