INDIANAPOLIS –
Recently-crowned Great Midwest Athletic Conference champion Findlay qualified as a team to compete in the East Super Regional portion of the NCAA DII Women’s Golf Championship on May 7-9.

Katke Golf Course in Grand Rapids, Mich., along with Ferris State University is serving as host for this year’s East Super Regional, a combination of schools ranging from the Midwest Region (G-MAC, GLVC, GLIAC), the PSAC (Kutztown) and NE-10 (Franklin Pierce).

The Great Midwest will additionally be represented by Trevecca sophomore Rachael McMahan who is now a two-time all-conference first-team selection following her performance at the 2017 and 2018 championship events at Four Bridges Country Club.

McMahan is one of six individuals to make the super regional field independently in Michigan along with Nicolle Barmettler (Truman St.), Sabrina Coffman (Saginaw Valley State), William Jewell’s Payton Meeks/Alex Trask and Sara Suazo (Cal (PA)).

Each super regional site will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently with 12 teams and 6 individuals from non-qualifying teams at each site. All participants will compete through the 54 holes of competition. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each super regional will advance to the championship.

The championship will be held May 16-19 at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas. The number of participants that qualify for the finals is 72.

Findlay won the 36-hole conference tournament while battling cold, snow and strong winds to post a tournament-record 616 (318-298). Also, the Oilers won the Illinois Springfield Invitational in impressive fashion while also beating Walsh as final tune-ups for the NCAA postseason. The Oilers were ranked fourth in the final East Region rankings.

Head coach Dominic Guarnieri and his lineup of Makenzie Torres, Samantha Hatter, Samantha Kellstrom, Kristina Kniesly and Meredith Wipper, held a 13-shot lead at the end of day one before eventually winning by a 41-shot margin to halt a streak of five straight women’s golf trophies won by Trevecca.

Live scoring for the tournament will be provided by host Ferris State through the Golfstat online system.
