INDIANAPOLIS – Walsh and Findlay earned accolades for the third week of the season as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week were revealed on Tuesday.
Track Athlete of the Week
Sarah Berger
Walsh
Senior
Distance
Wadsworth, OH (Wadsworth HS)
After earning NCAA All-American honors during the indoor season, Berger is back it in full force for the outdoor campaign.
The fleet-of-foot senior glided her way to an auto-qualifying time in the 1,500-meter run and established the top time in Division II this season.
Berger crossed the line in 4:18.67 at the Raleigh Relays at N.C. State University as she finished eighth in a field of 136 runners, virtually all from Division I schools.
The 4:18.67 is actually second in conference history to Cedarville’s Carsyn Koch, who ran 4:12.19 at the Bryan Clay Invite last year.
Out of 18 provisional times clocked in the country this spring, Berger and teammate Andra Lehotay rank first and second in the 1,500m distance.
Field Athlete of the Week
Hannah Hahler
Findlay
Junior
Throws
Willard, OH (Seneca East HS)
Hahler is another one of Findlay’s talented throwers with the likes of indoor NCAA All-American Alex DeVincentis and NCAA qualifier Holly Averesch.
Hahler came through with a conference record-breaking performance at the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Invite in the shot put with a distance that currently has her ninth nationally among all provisional qualifiers.
Her effort in the shot put resulted in a distance of 14.52m (47’7.75”) as she broke the previous best of 13.36m from Kentucky Wesleyan’s Cornelia Thomas.
Hahler competed in the shot put, discus and hammer at the meet, finishing first, sixth and third, respectively.
