Softball Players of the Week (April 2)

4.2.18

INDIANAPOLIS – Findlay and Trevecca were awarded Great Midwest Athletic Conference Softball Players of the Week honors as announced on Monday.

Lingering winter weather has still affected a handful of team schedules as the Great Midwest contenders are starting to emerge.

Findlay is unbeaten at 6-0 while Cedarville also has a perfect game in four less contests played at 2-0. Trevecca stands at 6-2 and Hillsdale is holding strong at 4-2.

Player of the Week
Madison Arnold
Findlay
Outfield
Senior
Bloomdale, OH (Elmwood HS)

In just two games, Arnold asserted herself with gaudy offensive numbers as the Oilers swept Ohio Valley in a pair of conference matchups.

And for the second week in a row, another Oiler carried ownership of offensive honors after teammate Kelley Cejer was picked last week.

Almost singlehandedly, Arnold powered her way past the Fighting Scots by going 6-for-7 with four extra-base hits. She homered, doubled twice and tripled while plating six.

Arnold was a perfect 4-for-4 in game one of the twinbill as she was a home run away from the cycle. She launched a home run and doubled in game two as the Oilers improved to 15-14 overall on the spring.

Arnold also had a stolen base and upped her season average to .264. She has 13 RBI and seven extra-base hits in 27 games played.

Junior
Springfield, TN (Davidson Academy)

Carr was dominant in the circle with a clean sheet in the win-loss column with four winning decisions in the past week.

The Trojans faced three conference opponents, Kentucky Wesleyan, Lake Erie and Ursuline, and Carr beat each one of them with her arm. TNU improved to 19-7-1 overall.

In four appearances (two starts), Carr was 4-0 with a sterling 0.41 ERA in 17 innings pitched. She tossed a three-hit shutout against Ursuline to finish up the week.

She earned wins in the box score with two scoreless relief innings in an 8-6 win against Kentucky Wesleyan and three more scoreless frames against Lake Erie in a 9-6 TNU victory.

Her recent stretch wasn’t just a blip on the radar this spring. She has been progressively dominant as the Trojans get deeper into the conference schedule.

In her last 13 appearances, the junior hurler is 9-0 with a 0.56 ERA. In those 49.2 innings, she has allowed just four earned runs while racking up 28 strikeouts.
