Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week (April 17)

4.18.18

INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week were selected with Malone and Walsh taking home the honors for respective performances.

Both schools competed in the Walsh Invitational over the weekend as more conference records fell with the 800-meter run (Ethan Gatchell, Cedarville), 5K (Mark Hadley, Walsh), 110-meter hurdles (Ashton Dulin, Malone), 4x1 relay (Malone), 4x4 relay (Findlay), pole vault (Tommy Ansiel, Cedarville), high jump (Adam Bouchard, Kentucky Wesleyan), triple jump (Tevin Riddle, Malone) and hammer throw (Marcus Myers, Walsh), all being reset.

Track Athlete of the Week
Ashton Dulin
Malone
Junior
Reynoldsburg, OH (Reynoldsburg HS)

For the second time in three weeks, a familiar face in Dulin takes home track athlete of the week honors. He has become synonymous with hurdles for the Great Midwest this season while continuing to move up the Division II provisional list.

Dulin was a part of two new conference records, including the 110-meter hurdles and the anchor of the 4x100-meter relay grouping.

Dulin blazed to a 14.10 in the 110-meter hurdles, the top mark all-time in conference history. He bested his previous career best of 14.39 two weeks ago over the Easter weekend.

Dulin clocked another top 10 time in the 400-meter hurdles and the dual-sport standout now owns nine of the league’s best 10 efforts. His time of 53.02 ranks seventh in the record books.

Dulin finished up the Walsh Invitational by anchoring the men’s 4x100 relay, which cruised to a new conference record of 42.15. The previous Great Midwest record was 42.40 by Kentucky Wesleyan at last year’s outdoor conference meet.

Field Athlete of the Week
Marcus Myers
Walsh
Senior
Grelton, OH (Patrick Henry HS)

Myers was also named the USTFCCCA National Men’s Field Athlete of the Week in Division II for his auto-qualifying distance in the hammer throw.

The talented senior thrower is now a two-time recipient of conference field athlete of the week honors for the current season.

Myers had already set the conference hammer throw record back at the Amy Adams Memorial in March with a distance of 60.16m. He smashed his previous best with a staggering 66.23m at the Walsh-hosted Cavaliers Invitational.

He now owns the best throw in all of Division II by almost two full meters and is the only automatic qualifier on record so far this season.

This effort follows an NCAA All-American season as a junior after he finished fourth last season at the 2017 DII Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
