INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week were selected on Tuesday as Alderson Broaddus and Findlay took home respective honors.
All teams are gearing up for the Great Midwest Championships at Hillsdale this spring, which is now less than a month away on May 3-5. Cedarville will look to defend its title as they have won the last four Great Midwest Outdoor Track and Field men’s titles.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Paris Vaughan
Alderson Broaddus
RS Junior
Largo, MD (Dr. Henry Wise HS)
Vaughan put up an impressive performance at the Brandi Bowen Invitational at Glenville State for his third career conference weekly honor. He took home first place in one event and was runner-up in another while placing near the top of the conference performance chart in both.
He started out by taking first place in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.20, a conference-best in the current outdoor season. It also represents a top-10 time in conference history.
He also clocked the second-fastest 110-meter hurdles of the season with a time of 14.90, placing second at the event as well. The redshirt junior already owns the conference meet record with the 14.61 he posted at the outdoor meet last season.
Vaughan also ran the second leg of the 4x100-meter relay team that placed second with a time of 43.72.
Vaughan helped lead the Battlers to a third-place team finish at the event and has also been part of three different relay teams that lead the team this season.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Dequan Lovell
Findlay
Junior
Bridgetown, Barbados (St. George)
The junior from Barbados received field athlete honors this week after continuing his impressive run this season in the outdoor field events. He had a strong showing at the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Relays.
This time, he set the conference record in the shot put, posting up a distance of 17.14 meters, which crushes the previous mark set by Walsh’s James Miller of 16.01.
That distance also puts him with the best as a provisional qualifier for nationals at 12th best in all of Division II.
Lovell also owns the best throw this season in the discus as well posting the fifth-best hammer throw of the outdoor campaign.
