Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week (March 5)

3.5.18

INDIANAPOLIS – Hillsdale junior forward Brittany Gray (Birmingham, MI/Marian HS) named the last Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week on Monday.

As the No. 5 seed, the Chargers overcame some challenging odds to rise to the top of the eight-team women’s bracket that played out in Cedarville’s Callan Athletic Center. Gray was instrumental in helping Hillsdale beat No. 4 Ursuline, No. 1 Cedarville and No. 3 Findlay, in order.

The Chargers are 19-10 overall heading into the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional as the No. 8 seed against No. 1 Ashland on Friday.

With a trademark high-arcing rainbow release, Gray averaged 15.3 points and 7.3 rebounds, two assists and over a steal per game with a deadly display from long distance. Hillsdale simply dominated the glass and three-point matchups in all three games.

She shot 52.2 percent from beyond the arc (12-of-23), her percentage from deep actually besting her two-point field goal percentage numbers.

Gray put up a double-double in the quarterfinals against No. 4 Ursuline with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She collected three steals and was 4-of-8 from three-point territory.

In the semis, the Chargers continued to shoot the lights out from three as Gray contributed eight points and six rebounds to help Hillsdale beat Cedarville for the first time in three attempts.

Gray saved her best for last in the championship game with a 22 point, 6-rebound effort against Findlay. She chipped in two blocks and three assists while shooting 6-for-10 from deep, a career-best total for her.

Gray is a two-time recipient of Great Midwest weekly conference honors this season.

In 26 games, Gray is averaging 12.8 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while shooting over 41 percent from the field and almost 40 percent from three-point territory.
