Ursuline, Findlay Receive Women’s Basketball Postseason Awards

INDIANAPOLIS – Between the D2 Conference Commissioner’s Association (D2CCCA) and Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), Great Midwest Athletic Conference student-athletes earned several postseason honors as the 2017-18 season came to a close.
 
The Great Midwest celebrated two teams in the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional. Findlay earned the No. 7 seed as an at-large selection while Hillsdale grabbed the conference’s automatic qualifier bid for the No. 8 seed.
 
Ursuline’s senior forward Laney Lewis put the finishing touches on a remarkable career with All-American honors from both organizations while Findlay junior forward Anna Hintz earned all-region accolades.
 
Both players were first-team all-conference selections by the league’s head coaches this season.
 
Lewis was one of 10 student-athletes in Division II to make the coveted WBCA All-America Team. She also was a D2CCA Second Team All-American pick after also earning first team regional honors.
 
Lewis averaged a double-double with 19.3 points and 12.7 rebounds per game for the Arrows. She also led the league in assists and was second in blocked shots.
 
Lewis also paced the entire country in triple-doubles, double-doubles and rebounding. She was fourth among all players in assists and was a top-30 scorer in DII.
 
Lewis finished her career as a three-time Great Midwest Player of the Year. She goes down as the league’s second-leading scorer (1,600 pts) and the conference’s all-time leader in both rebounds and blocks.
 
Hintz still has one more season to add to her impressive career totals. She will head into her senior season just 32 points away from 1,000 and has compiled impressive three-year averages of 11.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
 
In 2017-18, Hintz averaged 18.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, both figures that ranked top five in the conference. She also shot over 55 percent from the field to rank fourth and was also top 10 in free throw percentage and blocks.
