INDIANAPOLIS – Trevecca and Findlay both received a share of the most recent Great Midwest Athletic Conference Softball Players of the Week honors that were released on Tuesday morning.
The conference schedule gets underway this weekend as teams returned from their respective Spring Break trips against non-conference competition.
Player of the Week
Mary Collins
Trevecca
Catcher
Junior
Collierville, TN (Houston HS)
Collins is another piece of the puzzle that has helped the Trojans assemble the best record in the Great Midwest heading into the conference schedule.
Collins homered in both TNU contests this past week against Christian Brothers and Maryville as she started to find her power stroke, a swing that has produced 17 home runs in her career to date.
Collins is currently ranked tied for sixth all-time in Great Midwest history with Davis & Elkins’ Danielle Norton and former TNU standout Shelby Andrews.
Collins went 3-for-4 at the plate against the Buccaneers, including a two-run shot in the fifth inning that gave TNU a 7-3 lead.
In an eventual tie against Maryville, Collins also left the yard with a three-run blast launched in the fifth frame. Her fourth home run of the spring had the Trojans out in front before darkness would officially suspend the contest.
In 19 games, Collins is now hitting .370 at the plate with seven doubles, four home runs and 22 RBI.
Pitcher of the Week
Megan Fisher
Findlay
RHP
Freshman
Wapakoneta, OH (Wapakoneta HS)
Fisher, just a rookie, was brilliant with a complete game two-hit shutout victory against Davenport in a Midwest Region win for the Oilers. UF won the game 5-0 to start a doubleheader.
Fisher struck out nine over the seven full innings and only walked two on 93 pitches.
She also logged 3.1 innings as the starter in game two against Ashland later in the week. Despite being tagged with the loss in a close two-run game, Fisher picked up two more strikeouts.
For the week, Fisher was 1-1 with a 1.35 ERA while averaging over a strikeout per inning (11 in 10.1 IP). She was touched for just the two earned runs.
