Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week (Feb. 5)

2.5.18

INDIANAPOLIS – Ohio Dominican senior forward Sarah Futscher (Wilder, KY/Bishop Brossart HS) earned Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season on Monday.

ODU is one of four teams to officially secure their spot in the Great Midwest Championship bracket. The Panthers (16-6, 12-4 G-MAC) rolled to three conference victories in the last week, including two on the road.

Ohio Dominican remains in the mix to potentially host this year’s conference tournament as the top of the standings remain muddled. Findlay, Ursuline and Cedarville, have all been in first at some point in recent history while trying to separate from the pack.

Also selected in December, enter Futscher, who averaged a double-double in key wins against Walsh and on the road at Trevecca and Kentucky Wesleyan.

The 6-0 forward averaged 13.3 points and 11 rebounds per game with two assists and at least one steal and block. She shot over 57 percent from the floor to help ODU clinch a playoff spot in its first season with the league.

Against Walsh, a team that is closing in on a postseason bid, Futscher scored 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting, just two points shy of matching her season-best output of 25 vs. Lake Erie.

Futscher grabbed exactly 11 rebounds in all three games. Her second double-double of the week was against Trevecca and she contributed seven points and 11 rebounds against Kentucky Wesleyan, which beat Cedarville earlier in a wild week.

Futscher is the league leader in field goal percentage while converting over 62 percent of her shots. She is now averaging 13.1 points per game for Ohio Dominican this season and also ranks tied for seventh in rebounding and is top 10 in blocks.
