INDIANAPOLIS – Now a two-time winner, Lake Erie sophomore 125-pounder Blake Glogouski (New Paris, IN/Fairfield) was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Wrestling Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.
Glogouski helped the Storm to a third-place team finish at the NCAA Midwest Super Regional hosted by Findlay.
Glogouski joins three of his teammates - Nick Vandermeer, Tyler Hughes, Jesse Palser - who all qualified for the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on March 9-10.
Four members of Findlay (Bradley Metz, Mimmo Lytle, Josh Wimer, Nate Vandermeer) and one from each of Ohio Valley (Dalton George) and Alderson Broaddus (Gino Sita) also qualified for nationals by finishing in the top four of their weight class in the Findlay-hosted Super Regional.
Glogouski began the weekend as the 125-pound top seed and took a bye into the quarterfinals against Majid Corbit of Limestone. He won that match by disqualification and earned a semifinal berth on Saturday.
He began Saturday with a 7-6 decision over Nick Daggett from UNC-Pembroke to advance to the finals against Austin Neal from Newberry College. In a 17-9 major decision, he won the regional title in 125 pounds for the second consecutive year.
The Storm finished with 91 points overall in the NCAA Super Regional, which put them right behind Ashland and Newberry, which finished with 94.5 and 93 points, respectively.
