INDIANAPOLIS – Cedarville post position player Breanne Watterworth (Lake Orion, MI/Lake Orion Baptist HS) was named the final Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week of the regular season oIn Monday.
Watterworth helped the Yellow Jackets secure the coveted regular-season title on Saturday with a win against Alderson Broaddus.
Cedarville is the No. 1 seed entering the upcoming Great Midwest Championship bracket and will host the eight-team tourney in the Callan Athletic Center starting on Thursday.
The senior averaged 21.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in a pair of Cedarville wins. Earlier this season, Watterworth joined exclusive company as a member of the 1,000-point club, just one of 10 players to do so in the conference history.
She now has 1,100 points since 2014 going into the postseason, eighth most all-time in the Great Midwest record books.
Cedarville defended its home court against Davis & Elkins and AB. The Yellow Jackets will receive a trophy for winning the regular-season title on Wednesday at the championship banquet.
Watterworth had a 30 point, 11 rebound double-double against D&E, shooting 11-for-19 from the field and sinking eight free throws. She also added a pair of blocked shots and recorded three steals.
Versus the Battlers, Watterworth carved out 13 more points and pulled down eight boards. She was 6-of-8 from the field and made a three-pointer with two more blocks.
She is the Great Midwest’s all-time leader in field goal percentage at over 59 percent among all players with at least 300 field goals made. Watterworth ranks second in conference history in career blocks with 139 and has averaged 1.18 over her career.
In 28 games, she is averaging 12.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game for the regionally-ranked Yellow Jackets. She is shooting 59.9 percent on all shots from the floor.
