Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week (Feb. 12)

2.12.18

INDIANAPOLIS – Cedarville senior guard Kaitlyn Holm (Charlotte, N.C./Concord First Assembly HS) was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week on Monday.

The regular season continues to take shape with six schools already having punched their tickets to the Great Midwest Championship taking place March 1-3. The regular season champion will serve as host.

For the second time this season, a member of Cedarville’s women’s team was named the conference athlete of the week (Regina Hochstetler).

Holm made her mark in Cedarville’s only game on the week, which was a 93-88 win over Ohio Dominican. She played 36 minutes and put up 21 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.

She was 8-of-14 from the field and added five made free throws. Holm also chipped in three assists and three steals to aid the home victory.

Two of the best in the Great Midwest, Hochstetler and Ohio Dominican’s Sarah Futscher, have both suffered injuries in their promising seasons. Futscher went down in the game against Cedarville while Hochstetler, a member of the 1,000-point scoring club, was sidelined in recent history.

The win against ODU puts Cedarville just a half game behind Ursuline in the conference standings for the No. 1 seed with the Yellow Jackets hosting the Arrows on Thursday in a pivotal showdown.

Cedarville also faces Findlay this week in what will shape up to be a defining test for the Yellow Jackets down the stretch.

Holm has been nothing but consistent across the board for Cedarville this season. She ranks in the top 25 in the conference in points per game, rebounding, assists, and free throw percentage.
