INDIANAPOLIS - Hasan Varence was selected as the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Week after leading Ohio Dominican University to a pair of Great Midwest Athletic Conference victories over Davis & Elkins College and Alderson Broaddus University last week.
Varence averaged 21.0 points and 23.0 rebounds while finishing one point shy of back-to-back 20/20 games.
Varence set the Ohio Dominican school and G-MAC conference single-game rebounding record with 25 rebounds along with 23 points against Davis & Elkins, leading the Panthers to a 91-61 road win.
He added 19 points and 21 rebounds in a 74-70 win at home over Alderson Broaddus. On the week, he shot 56 percent (15-for-27), including 3-for-3 from three-point range, and he was nearly-perfect from the free throw line, hitting 9-of-10. He also recorded four blocks on the week.
Varence is now the G-MAC’s leading rebounder, averaging 11.6 rebounds per game to go with his season scoring average of 14.3 points per game for the Panthers, who are now 8-3 overall and 4-1 in the G-MAC.
