INDIANAPOLIS – National media outlets continued to release postseason awards for the football season with Great Midwest Athletic Conference student-athletes recognized on lists released by the Associated Press, College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and D2 Conference Commissioner’s Association (D2CCA).

The CoSIDA Google Cloud Academic All-Americans featured three from the Great Midwest: Ohio Dominican duo Cory Contini and Robert Vargo along with Findlay offensive lineman Neal Davis

All three were Google Cloud Academic All-District Team selections from Super Region I along with Ohio Dominican sophomore punter Logen Neidhardt. The talented specialist Neidhardt made the ballot with a 3.86 GPA in Exercise Science.

For Contini, the 2018 Great Midwest Offensive Back of the Year, it was his third consecutive selection as an Academic All-American, this season as a first-team honoree. The senior standout wide receiver has logged a 3.90 GPA in Accounting during his studies at Ohio Dominican.

Vargo, a mauler and mainstay on the offensive line, was a major contributor to 2017’s Great Midwest Championship run and ODU’s placement in the AFCA national rankings. He was also a first-team recipient of Academic All-American recognition.

Vargo’s GPA has been recorded as a 3.96 while pursuing his degree in Sport Management at ODU.

Another offensive lineman honored as a Google Cloud Academic All-American is Findlay center Neal Davis. Like Vargo, Davis has been instrumental in helping the Oilers win the war in the trenches that has translated to two very successful seasons with the conference.

Davis was a second-team Academic All-American and his GPA in Strength & Conditioning is an impressive 3.94.

A total of 10 student-athletes from three Great Midwest programs appeared on the D2CCA All-Super Region 1 Team.

Conference champion Hillsdale led the pack with six overall selections, with three first team and three second-team selections. To no one’s surprise, Harlon Hill finalist and senior quarterback Chance Stewart made the first team along for the Chargers with Drew Callahan on the offensive line and wide receiver Trey Brock

Already an AFCA First Team All-American, Brock added AP First Team All-American and D2CCA First Team All-American laurels to his decorated season resume. Brock averaged over 118 yards receiving per game and officially broke the single-season conference record in receptions, yards and TD’s.

Brock dipped into territory only known by former Kentucky Wesleyan and current NFL pro Keelan Cole as a student-athlete

Hillsdale’s second teamers included all-conference talent in safety Wyatt Batdorff and conference-leading sack artist Zach VanValkenburg, along with kicker Joe Philipp.

The Ohio Dominican Panthers were also well represented with three first-team selections. Contini and linebacker/2018 Defensive Player of the Year Ross Thompson added all-region honors to their conference awards and Neidhardt added to his first team all-conference selection as well.

The Malone Pioneers made an appearance with the selection of senior speedy wideout Ashton Dulin as an all-region first-team performer for his stellar kick return skills, which also helped buy him a ticket to the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl as a returner.
