INDIANAPOLIS – Nationally-ranked Lake Erie earned the first seasonal selection for Great Midwest Athletic Conference Wrestling Athlete of the Week honors as the new year is officially underway.
The Storm are ranked tied for 14th in the NWCA Coaches Poll to start the year as six teams from the Great Midwest compete for the inaugural sport-sponsored championship.
First-year league member Tiffin is also ranked, slotted in a tie for 25th, while Findlay, Alderson Broaddus and Ohio Valley are at least on the radar in the receiving votes category.

Tiffin will host the first Great Midwest Wrestling Championship, a double round-robin format, Feb. 1-2 in the Dragons’ Heminger Center.

Boggs was a redshirt last season, but still one of the top names in the league to track as an NCAA All-American in 2017 and a former first team All-GLIAC pick.
Ranked fourth to begin the season in the 157-pound weight class, Boggs made quite an impression during LEC’s season-opening Kent State Duals as the Storm went 3-0 vs. Otterbein, Cowley and Lindsey Wilson.
Boggs picked up bonus team points in two of his outcomes, including a pin and a major decision.
He pinned Otterbein’s Michael Duzzny in 5:43 to give the Storm six points. In his next match, Boggs contributed four more team points with a 9-1 major decision.
In his last match vs. Lindsey Wilson, he recorded a 5-2 decision over Joe Koontz.
