Coaches Pick Findlay to Win Inaugural Wrestling Title

11.8.18

INDIANAPOLIS – The first Great Midwest Athletic Conference Wrestling Preseason Coaches Poll presented by Under Armour favored Findlay by a slight margin with the inaugural championship event set to be conducted in 2019.

The opening weekend is already in the books, but teams will be working towards preparing for the first conference championship trophy.

Tiffin will serve as host for the first event, a double-round robin format, on Feb. 1-2 in the Heminger Center.

Findlay received three first-place votes from the coaches in the balloting for a total of 18 points. Tiffin is a very close second as the preseason runner-up with 17 points and one first-place vote.

Lake Erie received the other first-place vote and was just one point back from Tiffin in the voting with 16 points.

Ohio Valley and Alderson Broaddus are fourth and fifth while Kentucky Wesleyan’s first year with the program has the Panthers in sixth, respectively.

Lake Erie and Tiffin are both nationally ranked by the NWCA to start the season and the Great Midwest also has 10 different wrestlers individually ranked in their respective weight class early in the season.

*NOTE* One member institution did not cast a ballot.
