INDIANAPOLIS
– Eight teams in quarterfinal action for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship will start their respective playoff quests on Tuesday, Nov. 6, this week at different campus sites.
 
After five different team champions (football, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s cross country, women’s cross country) were crowned from the fall season over the past weekend, teams in the volleyball bracket are anxious to be on deck.
 
Four different teams from the East Division and four more programs from the West Division each qualified for the conference tournament.
 
The East Division champion was Walsh while Hillsdale was the outright West Division champion after sharing with Findlay in 2017.
 
The winners of Tuesday’s quarterfinals will gather at the highest remaining seed for the semifinals and championship match that will be conducted on Friday and Saturday.
 
The Great Midwest tournament champion will receive an automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional and the annual all-conference team with individual award winners will be announced on Thursday evening at the traditional banquet for the semifinalists.
 
Quarterfinal host sites include seeds from the No. 1 West (Hillsdale), No. 2 East (Lake Erie), No. 1 East (Walsh) and No. 2 West (Findlay). All matches are scheduled for 7 p.m. ET with the exception of Findlay starting an hour later at 8 p.m. ET.
 
No. 1 West (Hillsdale) will host No. 4 East (Ursuline), No. 2 East (Lake Erie) will host No. 3 West (Tiffin), No. 1 East (Walsh) will host No. 4 West (Cedarville) and No. 2 West (Findlay) welcomes in No. 3 East (Malone).
 
The defending conference tournament champion Chargers are the No. 1 overall seed in the championship bracket. Hillsdale and Walsh will each receive their divisional team trophy on Thursday.
 
Movement in the regional rankings and postseason hopes are also on the line as teams make their final push to make an impression on the selection committee.
 
The league has two teams currently regionally ranked with Hillsdale at No. 8 and Findlay sitting at No. 10.
