INDIANAPOLIS
– Two Great Midwest Athletic Conference wrestling programs have made their way into the new National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) national poll for Division II.

The first team to appear is the Findlay Oilers who come in at the 24th position. Head coach Shawn Nelson and his program have enjoyed a fine start to their season and have faced some tough competition.

Findlay began the year with a meet at Division I Michigan State and racked up 11 individual wins in tournament action. Followed by strong showings at Maryville and at home in the Findlay Open, the Oilers are doing their best living up to a preseason billing of No. 1 in the conference poll by the coaches.

Just behind the Oilers is Lake Erie in a three-way tie for No. 25 in the country. The Storm share that position with Newman out of the Heartland Conference and Colorado Mesa out of the RMAC.

Coached by Jeff Breese, Lake Erie has earned two of the three conference weekly honors so far with sophomore Sean O’Hearon and senior Nick Boggs.

Both teams will be back in action this weekend with Findlay competing in the Wisconsin Open at Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday, December 1, and Lake Erie playing host to Tiffin and other programs in the Storm Open on Sunday, December 2.

The inaugural Great Midwest Wrestling Championship will be conducted in Tiffin’s Heminger Center, a double round-robin team format to crown the league’s first title winner.
