INDIANAPOLIS – With head-to-head victories over league competition during the weekend, Davis & Elkins and Findlay are each represented in the fourth release of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week honors.
Men’s Athlete of the Week
Ricard Castan
Davis & Elkins
Sophomore
Falling Waters, WV (Hedgesville HS)
After finishing last year as an all-conference second-team performer during his freshman campaign, Castan is continuing to make strides in his second year for the Senators.
Castan swept all three of his races entered, helping the Senators men to a convincing victory in their triangular meet against conference foes Alderson Broaddus and Malone.
Castan started off the night by winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.68. He then edged out the competition at 10:16.16 in the 1,000-yard freestyle distance.
Castan finished the day with a performance of 2:02.80 in the 200-yard backstroke, which was almost two seconds faster than his fastest time last year.
Women’s Athlete of the Week
Amanda Stiegal
Findlay
Senior
Wheaton, IL (Warrensville South)
An NCAA All-American and winner of six different events in the G-MAC/MEC Championships, the senior Stiegal is continuing her winning ways with three first-place finishes and one second-place finish as part of the 11 Oilers event wins on Saturday.
Findlay traveled to Hillsdale and also faced Lewis in a meet with Midwest Region competition.
Stiegal won the 200-yard freestyle race with a time of 1:59.49 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:24.06.
She finished the night racing on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay unit that finished more than one second ahead of the competition.
Stiegal was also the anchor leg on the 200-yard Medley Relay that finished in second place, just 0.05 seconds behind the winning pace.
Stiegal was also a CSCAA National Swimmer of the Week in 2017-18.
