Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week (Oct. 31)

11.1.18

INDIANAPOLIS – Teams from across the league are slowly getting into the heart of the season and another set of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week awards was announced on Wednesday.

Men’s Athlete of the Week
Pedro Gaspar
Davis and Elkins
Sophomore
Rio De Janeiro, Brazil (Colegio Palas)

With both individual and relay team wins this week against Notre Dame College, Gaspar has been a big part of the Senators’ early-season success.

Right out of the gate, the reigning Great Midwest Freshman of the Year Gaspar contributed to a relay team that swam a 1:40.64 in the 200-yard medley.

After that, Gaspar went on to win three individual events with a 1:48.02 in the 200-yard freestyle, a 4:51.25 in the 500-yard freestyle, and a 2:00.81 in the 200-yard individual medley.

This is Gaspar's third career weekly conference honor after picking up weekly accolades twice as a freshman.

Women’s Athlete of the Week
Kendra Polewski
Freshman
Findlay
Lakeshore, Ontario (St. Anne Catholic HS)

Fans had better start getting used to the sensational freshman with back-to-back weekly conference honors for her work in the water.

Polewski already nailed a “B” standard in 200-yard freestyle and it’s just a matter of time before the Canadian eclipses more national-qualifying times.

With 4 overall wins in Findlay’s most recent event with Saginaw Valley State, Polewski has been dominant in freestyle competition.

Individually, she won the 50-yard freestyle (24.56), the 100-yard freestyle (53.00), and the 500-yard freestyle (5:06.58) – all top times among the combined swimmers from the Great Midwest and Mountain East Conference.

Her one relay win came in the coed 400-yard freestyle distance where she and her teammates swam a 3.28.29.
