INDIANAPOLIS – A pair of repeat winners were on top of their game as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Players of the Week were revealed for the East and West Division on Monday afternoon.
Hillsdale continues to run the table at 11-0 in the West while rivals Malone and Walsh attempt to clear the picture in the East tied at 9-3 in the standings.
The conference will be represented by 12 of its 14 member institutions at the Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover tournament this weekend in Indianapolis.
The Midwest Region Crossover is the nation’s largest collegiate volleyball event at one venue and will be conducted at The Academy Volleyball Club from Oct. 12-13
East Division Player of the Week
Lauren Loucks
Walsh
Junior
Outside Hitter
Oregon, OH (Cardinal Stritch HS)
Loucks was stellar as the Cavaliers rolled to a pair of divisional wins and kept pace with Malone at the top of the East Division.
At this point in the year, Walsh holds the tiebreaker over Malone for postseason seeding by virtue of a five-set win back on Sept. 28, but the two teams will clash again later this month in Canton.
Loucks put away 37 kills against Ohio Valley and Ohio Dominican with both matches coming on the road. She hit .452 and averaged 5.64 points per set with a total of seven games played.
Versus ODU, Loucks recorded 22 kills on 46 swings. She had 15 in the straight-set sweep over OVU while hitting .481. She also contributed three blocks, four digs and a service ace.
Among all players from the past week of competition, Loucks ranked second in kills, fourth in attacking percentage and third in points.
This is her second career conference weekly honor of the season after also being selected on Sept. 17.
West Division Player of the Week
Jenna Huffman
Tiffin
Junior
Middle Blocker
McComb, OH (McComb HS)
Huffman was dominant in back-to-back sweeps against Lake Erie and Ursuline on the road as the Dragons continue to establish themselves as top tier in the conference in their first season.
Tiffin will carry the No. 3 seed from the league into this weekend’s Crossover event.
Huffman recorded 30 kills and hit .431. Her peripheral stats were just as splashy with 4.67 digs per set and almost a block per set.
Huffman was responsible for 17 kills on 35 attempts against reigning East Division champ Lake Erie and followed that up the next day with 13 more against Ursuline. She had double-doubles in each contest with 16 and 12 digs, respectively.
Among all players in the league, Huffman ranked second in points, third in kills, fifth in hitting percentage and eighth in digs from the past week of competition.
This is her second career conference weekly honor of the season after also being selected on Sept. 24.
