Women’s Soccer Players of the Week (Oct. 29)

10.29.18

INDIANAPOLIS – The playoff bracket is down to the final four teams remaining as Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Players of the Week were released on Monday afternoon.

The seedings played out as scripted in quarterfinal action as No. 1/regular-season champion Ohio Valley, No. 2 Trevecca, No. 3 Walsh and No. 4 Findlay, all advanced into the second-round semifinals.

Both semifinal matches will be played on turf at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio, on Thursday, Nov. 1.

The women’s soccer championship banquet will be conducted on the campus of Ohio Valley on Wednesday night where the annual all-conference team and individual award winners will be unveiled.

Offensive Player of the Week
Makena Schlosser
Trevecca
Midfielder
Freshman
Indianapolis, IN (Heritage Christian HS)

The promising rookie was unfazed by the playoff spotlight in her first postseason action with two game-winning goals netted for the second-seeded Trojans over the past week.

TNU pitched its 10th shutout of the season against No. 7 seed Davis & Elkins in the conference tournament quarterfinals.

In the regular-season finale, the Trojans sewed up the No. 2 seed in the eight-team bracket with a 3-1 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan.

The decisive blow from Schlosser’s foot against Kentucky Wesleyan split a 1-1 tie in the 67th minute of regulation. It represented her fifth goal of the season and she also assisted Madison Carby’s score about eight minutes later.

Schlosser again was a problematic matchup against Davis & Elkins as she found the net, her sixth goal of the year, for the go-ahead score in the 25th minute of the first half.

The Trojans improved to 13-3-2 overall on the season going into Thursday’s game.

Defensive Player of the Week
Lindsey Ahbe
Findlay
Defender
Sophomore
Green, OH (Green HS)

It has been quite the turnaround for the Oilers, going from missing the postseason in 2017 to first-round playoff host in 2018 with a quarterfinal win.

Fierce defense has been the name of the game with Findlay hovering near the top of the conference standings for the duration of the season.

Ahbe has been one of the catalysts, flying all over the field to make an impact that isn’t necessarily appropriately reflected in the box scores as a defender.

The Oilers stifled Tiffin to close out the regular season with a commanding edge in the shot department, 24-5. Ahbe then helped key a first-round shutout for UF against 2017 championship finalist/NCAA qualifier Ohio Dominican on Saturday.

ODU managed just seven shots while Findlay had six in a defensive battle.

Ahbe has played a team-high 1,436 minutes while starting 15 of the team’s 16 contests this fall.
