INDIANAPOLIS
– No. 3 seed Ohio Valley and No. 5 Lake Erie emerged as quarterfinal winners on Saturday in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship bracket to start the postseason.

The Fighting Scots and Storm will join No. 2 Cedarville and regular-season champion/tournament host/No. 1 seed Tiffin next week for the semifinals.

The Yellow Jackets and Dragons each enjoyed first-round byes for their status as the top two seeds in the six-team bracket.

The championship semifinals will be held on Thursday, Nov. 1, at Tiffin’s Paradiso Fields and will be streamed on the Great Midwest Digital Network. LEC/TU will play the early game at noon ET while OVU/CU will follow around 2:30 p.m.

Lake Erie (9-5-4 overall) pulled off the opening-round upset in the Storm’s first-ever appearance in the men’s soccer playoffs since joining the league as a full member. As the No. 5 seed, LEC brought down No. 4 Ohio Dominican (8-9-1 overall) in Columbus as both teams came in with big wins to close out the regular season.

In the end though, a seventh minute goal from Javier Borreguero was the decisive blow in a 1-0 final. Only one shot separated both teams in the box score and Tom John was stellar in net with a six-save shutout.

Lake Erie had the upper hand against Ohio Dominican in the regular season meeting with a 3-2 win back on Sept. 15.

Ohio Valley (15-4-0 overall) came into the conference tournament as the defending Great Midwest regular season/tourney champ.

The Fighting Scots took care of business against a familiar opponent in No. 6 Alderson Broaddus (6-10-2 overall) as the two well-respected programs clashed in Charleston at Schoenbuam Stadium.

Double-digit goal scorer Jorge Pradillos scored twice for the Fighting Scots, once in each half to key the offense to the playoff win. OVU had a considerable advantage in the shot department, 18-7, to record the shutout effort.

For the freshman Pradillos, it was his 11th and 12th goals of the season. It was also the third team OVU and ABU had faced off in the 2018 season with the Fighting Scots winning both regular season matchups.
