10.15.18

INDIANAPOLIS – With five schools having clinched a spot in the postseason tournament, Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Players of the Week honorees were announced Monday afternoon.

Ohio Valley, Trevecca, Findlay, Walsh and Ohio Dominican, have all secured their postseason bids with each team earning 22 or more conference points.

The tournament field will soon be set, as the teams wrap up regular-season play next week and top eight teams begin postseason on Saturday, October 27, in quarterfinal competition.

Lake Erie and Ursuline are currently deadlocked for the final spot and will play each other in Painesville on the final night of play in the regular season. Three more teams can round out the bracket’s eight-team field.

Offensive Player of the Week
Claire Brothen
Trevecca
Defender
Junior
Scottsdale, AZ (Xavier College Prep)

Two wins, two shutout efforts, two road games and two game-winners was a golden equation for Brothen and the program as the Trojans punched their ticket into the conference tournament.

In Thursday's face-off at Lake Erie, Brothen scored on her one and only shot of the game. The goal came early in the second half off a pass from Katelyn Hutchinson as the Trojans pitched their third shutout in a row.

Brothen also only took one shot during the Trojans’ 1-0 overtime victory at Ursuline on Saturday. This game winner came off a corner kick six minutes into OT for the golden goal and Brothen slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Trevecca is currently tied for second in the conference standings with three more games left in the regular season.

Brothen now has five goals on the season with 14 games played.

Defensive Player of the Week
Alisha Himes
Walsh
Defender
Junior
Lebanon, OH (Bishop Benwick)

Himes and the Walsh defense clamped down to hand first-place Ohio Valley its first loss of the season in the league schedule and the first conference defeat dating back to October 25, 2016.

The Cavaliers were one of four teams to officially lock in their playoff hopes over the weekend and currently sport 25 conference points in the standings.

Himes contributed the game-winning shot in a 2-1 victory over the Fighting Scots in the 78th minute.

The Walsh defensive unit successfully game planned around a high-scoring OVU attack, which went into the game averaging almost three goals per contest.

This is Himes’ second career conference weekly defensive honor since Walsh joined the conference in 2017.
