INDIANAPOLIS – Ohio Valley nationally-ranked redshirt junior Dalton George (Williamstown, WV / Williamstown HS) was tabbed the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Wrestling Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
George is another NCAA All-American grappler to be recognized for conference weekly honors this season. He was 35-16 with a school-record 16 pins as a sophomore that included a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
The junior is currently ranked sixth at 174 pounds in the InterMat weight class rankings.
George won the West Virginia Intercollegiate Championship for the second year in a row while being named most outstanding wrestler of the meet. He had a 4-1 decision in the semifinals before pinning previous Great Midwest Athlete of the Week Gino Sita (Alderson Broaddus) in 4:49.
This was George’s first time back on the mat since November after being sidelined with an injury. George improved to 8-1 on the season with two individual meet wins including the Mount Union Invitational back in November.
