INDIANAPOLIS – For the second time this season, Cedarville senior guard Patrick Bain (Tipp City, OH / Bethel HS) was selected as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week.
Bain’s third career conference weekly honor comes on the heels of key conference wins against Lake Erie and Ohio Valley as the Yellow Jackets (10-9, 5-7 G-MAC) continue to fight for a postseason berth.
Cedarville started out the week with a road win over Lake Erie as Bain helped quiet the Storm with personal-best scoring numbers. He scored almost half of Cedarville’s point total while erupting for a career-high 41 on precise 17-of-27 shooting.
He also chipped in three assists, five rebounds and three steals throughout the contest. Bain made four of the team’s five threes in 33 minutes of action.
Bain’s 41-point effort is tied for the second highest single-game scoring total in the conference this year along with Malone’s Ty Jordan (Dec. 9 vs. Findlay).
Cedarville made a triumphant return back to the Callan Athletic Center on Saturday as Bain poured in a team-high 25 against Ohio Valley. He added eight rebounds and three assists for another strong single-game effort.
He also sank four more triples against the Fighting Scots to give him eight for the week.
He currently ranks second in the G-MAC in scoring while tallying 21.7 points per game. He and Alderson Broaddus’ Mike Davis are the only two qualified players to average more than 20 points per game in the league.
His 33 minutes played per game is good enough for fifth in the conference, and he is in the top 10 in field goal percentage, assists and free throw percentage while ranking in the top 15 in the conference in defensive rebounds, three-point field goals and steals.
Bain continues to make his ascent in the conference record books as he moved into fifth all-time in career scoring (1,266 points). This week, he passed former Cedarville program standout Marcus Reineke (1,238 points).
