Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week (Jan. 23)

1.23.18

INDIANAPOLIS - Ursuline junior Janelle Perry and Findlay senior Alex DeVincentis were named Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.

Walsh sophomore Andra Lehotay provisionally qualified for nationals in the mile with a time of 4:54.16.

Cavaliers teammate Sarah Berger, NCAA Championship runner-up in cross country, also joined her with a strong effort in the 3K to join Hillsdale’s Hannah McIntyre and Arena Lewis as provisional qualifiers.

Perry has company with Milani Glass (Findlay) joining her as a provisional national qualifier in the 60-meter hurdles and Hillsdale’s 4x4 relay unit finished under four minutes at their own home meet.

Cedarville’s Madeline Barnes also provisionally qualified in the pole vault, an event that has been highlighted with auto qualifier Kaitlyn Barber (Walsh).

Holly Averesch and DeVincentis are both provisional qualifiers in the shot put for Findlay.

Perry’s athleticism and skill set resembles a Swiss-Army knife with a hold on top conference season times/distances in the 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles, high jump and long jump.

She was at it again this past weekend at the Conference Crossover at Hillsdale, the host site for this year’s Great Midwest Indoor Championships. Perry took down two more indoor conference records in her latest display.

After clocking a 7.73 in the prelims, Perry blazed to a new conference record of 7.66 in the 60-meter dash finals. She broke the previous record held by Keyana Roberts, also of Ursuline, back in 2015.

She also shattered her own 60-meter hurdles mark with an 8.47 clocked. She had set the record just back in December at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala

Perry was just 0.01 meter from matching Olga Branney (Malone) and her high jump record at the same event. Her 5.81m distance in the long jump is third all-time in conference history – Perry has possession of that standard already.

Senior
Findlay, OH (Liberty-Benton HS)

DeVincentis is another local product to Findlay and she went to the same high school as Austin Combs, one of the program’s star throwers on the men’s side.

She is a four-time indoor/outdoor NCAA All-American already in her accomplished career and along with Hillsdale’s Rachael Tolsma, gives the conference a pair of national championship contenders in the throws cage.

At the Tiffin Dragon Open, she registered a distance of 15.07 meters (49’ 5’5”). She broke her own season-best mark (14.91m) back in December at the Oiler Opener.
