Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week (Jan. 22)

1.22.18

INDIANAPOLIS – Walsh sophomore guard Chandler Vaudrin (Uniontown, OH / Lake HS) was again named Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week as announced on Monday.

Vaudrin’s all-around skill set was on display for his second conference weekly honor of the 2017-18 season. He was previously honored on Dec. 4 and recently appeared on the Bevo Francis Award watch list of 100 student-athletes along with Findlay's Taren Sullivan.

The Cavaliers toppled non-conference foe Bluefield State before traveling to Canton and taking down Malone, 70-68, in the newest chapter of a spirited rivalry between the two respective schools.

Vaudrin, the conference leader in a handful of categories, averaged 19 points, 13.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 1.5 steals, per game in the two Walsh wins. He also shot nearly 64 percent from the field as the Cavaliers improved to 11-4 overall and 7-3 in the G-MAC.

Vaudrin leads all players in the league in steals (2.1 spg), rebounds (9.6 rpg), assists (6.9 apg) and field goal percentage (.574). He is also eighth in scoring (15.7 ppg).

He had a pair of double-doubles in the past week, recording 14 points and 11 rebounds against Bluefield State, and putting up 24 and 14 against Malone.

Vaudrin was 10-of-16 from the floor as the Cavaliers stormed Osborne Hall for the conference victory. He collected seven assists and had two steals in all 40 possible minutes of playing time.

Vaudrin sank all six free throw tries against Bluefield State in the double-digit margin of victory against the Blues. He dished out six dimes and had a block and a steal.

No. 15 Findlay remains the cream the crop at the top of the league standings heading into this weekend’s showdown in Croy Gymnasium on ESPN3 against Kentucky Wesleyan as part of the Division II Showcase. The Oilers have won 14 straight, extending their win streak with a win against Ohio Valley.

UF is still unbeaten in the conference schedule at 12-0 while improving to 18-2 overall.

The seven-day span featured some teams with three contests because of the Martin Luther King Jr. national holiday. Hillsdale traveled to grab two league victories on the road and the Chargers are still second in the standings at 9-3.

Each game comes with added significance as the eight-team tournament bracket will work itself out for March Madness. If the season were to end today, all five of the new first-year institutions would find themselves in the G-MAC Championship field.
