INDIANAPOLIS – The first Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week honor for the new calendar year was awarded to Findlay senior guard Lynsey Englebrecht (Eastlake, OH / North HS) on Tuesday.
The Oilers completed a perfect month of December by taking out Davis & Elkins on the road to head into 2018. UF has now won 11 straight and emerged on the radar of the new WBCA Coaches Poll in the receiving votes category.
Cedarville, ranked No. 22 in the previous national poll, and Findlay is receiving 25 and 24 votes to represent the Great Midwest.
Findlay (11-1, 8-0 G-MAC) holds a one-game lead in the conference standings over Ursuline (10-3, 7-0 G-MAC) as both respective programs continue to put together impressive win streaks.
Englebrecht closed out 2017 with a bang after producing 26 points on the strength of eight three-point field goals in Elkins, W.Va. She was a scintillating 9-of-11 overall while misfiring just once on her nine tries from beyond the arc.
Englebrecht’s eight three-point shots made are tied for the third most in a single game in conference history. The all-time single-game record remains at 10 while Englebrecht is the third women’s player to make eight treys joining Makayla Rosselot (Ursuline – 2015) and Raven-Symone Nelson (Ursuline – 2016).
In 31 minutes, the senior guard also contributed five assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals. She joins teammate Anna Hintz as Findlay conference athletes of the week in 2017-18 and has led the Oilers in scoring in four games this year.
Going into the new week, she is UF’s second-leading scorer at 14.7 points per game and also ranks ninth in the league among all qualified players.
Englebrecht’s three-point prowess has her currently ranked first nationally in triples made per game (4.00) and she ranks second in three-point percentage (.516) only behind Alanna Scott of Dominican (CA) at .643.
Among current Great Midwest league leaders, she ranks sixth in assist-to-turnover ratio, 10th in minutes played and is top 15 in assists per game.
