INDIANAPOLIS – With undefeated marks in league play, Walsh and Ohio Valley were represented in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Players of the Week announcement on Tuesday.
OVU continues its stunning turnaround from a year ago and with 13 points in the current standings, have a narrow lead against Walsh and Ohio Dominican, both tied for second with 12 points.
Walsh remains unbeaten at 7-0-0 while taking down Trevecca and Kentucky Wesleyan at home in Week 4 action. A marquee matchup lies ahead for the Cavaliers with a trip to Ursuline where the Arrows’ Steph Chlad has emerged second in the league in points and goals.
Ursuline enters the fifth week of the regular season tied with Lake Erie with nine points while preseason favorite Trevecca remains in the hunt with eight points and a 2-1-2 league record.
Kentucky Wesleyan also found its way into the win column with an overtime win against Malone.
About 8-9 conference games are left to play as teams near the midway point of the Great Midwest schedule.
Great Midwest Offensive Player of the Week

Sophomore – Twinsburg, OH (Twinsburg HS)
Sanborn had key contributions in both of the Cavaliers’ wins against Trevecca and Kentucky Wesleyan as Walsh improved to 4-0-0 in conference play.
One week after teammate Mickey McClanahan was tabbed for defensive weekly honors, Sanborn and Olivia Peters continue to form a deadly 1-2 offensive combo that has helped the Cavaliers blaze a trail to a perfect season so far.
Sanborn contributed five points (2 G, A) against the preseason favorite Trojans to help seal a 3-2 victory and delivered the game-winning goal against KWC in a 2-0 shutout performance.
As a team unit, Walsh leads the conference in points and assists and ranks second in both goals and goals per game.
Sanborn now ranks fifth in the Great Midwest in points (13), fourth in points per game (1.86), goals (5) and is tied for third in assists (3).

Junior – San Carlos, Costa Rica (The Citadel)
Mora and the Fighting Scots claimed sole possession of first place in the conference standings with shutouts against Findlay and Ohio Dominican. The win against ODU was notable because the Panthers went into Week 4 as the conference leader.
The Fighting Scots have won three straight after battling to a pair of 1-1 ties.
In the 2-0 week, Mora played all 180 minutes and combined to make 11 saves on 23 shots faced against Findlay and Ohio Dominican.
The Fighting Scots’ defense permitted just six shots against Mora in the win vs. Findlay while the junior keeper stepped up to make seven saves on 17 shots under a little more duress against the Panthers.
Mora is now on record for all of OVU’s goalkeeping decisions this season with a league-leading .893 save percentage and is second (to Walsh’s McClanahan) with a very small 0.42 goals against average.
