INDIANAPOLIS – Riding an impressive shutout streak, Davis & Elkins collected both honors for Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Players of the Week on Tuesday morning.
The Senators had familiar faces receive offensive and defensive awards. D&E improved to 5-1-1 overall and now sit third in the conference standings behind Findlay and No. 18 Ohio Valley.
OVU has 16 points at the top to lead all teams while Findlay has 15. The Oilers’ lone league setback was against Ohio Valley, but Findlay rebounded to beat Cedarville at home in a 2-1 week.
Findlay Josh Hales and Josh Burton have emerged as ringleader for the Oilers’ hot start ranking among the league’s top point scorers. Hales is tied for fifth in points and Burton ranks in the top 10 as well.
Walsh has 12 conference points currently in fifth place while Trevecca is sixth with a 3-2-1 league record and 10 points.

Staerz has earned conference weekly offensive honors for the third time in his young career already.
With shutouts against Ohio Dominican and Lake Erie, both on the road, Staerz accumulated seven points.
Even more impressive was Staerz recording both game-winning goals in each contest. He scored the game’s only goal against ODU before striking for two goals and an assist against LEC in a 5-0 final.
Staerz has moved into a tie for second in the league in points with 14. Walsh’s JP Alexis and Ohio Valley’s Celso Riveros each have 14 points. The sophomore is first in points per game (2.00).

Sophomore – Chatenay Malabry, France (Lycee Chevrollier)
Mehnaoui also earned conference weekly honors as a freshman in 2016. He recorded two more shutouts this week against Ohio Dominican and Lake Erie with a combined eight saves.
The Senators have outscored their last four opponents by a combined score of 15-0 while working on a string of four consecutive shutouts.
Mehnaoui’s record is now at 4-1-0 with credit for all four shutouts. He has a league-leading save percentage of .900 and is second in goals against average with a 0.40 clip in 450 total minutes played.
