INDIANAPOLIS – Findlay junior Makenzie Torres was announced as the first Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Athlete of the Week for the 2017-18 season on Wednesday morning.
 
Torres earned her selection for accomplishments on the links from Sept. 11-17 when the Oilers participated in the UIndy Fall Invitational to begin the fall campaign.
 
In a loaded field, Findlay (312-311--623) finished in ninth with 14 teams competing.
 
Torres carded a two-round total of 150 (76-74) as she finished tied for 10th individually. Her first top-10 finish was in a field of 87 players at the par-72 Prairie View Golf Course in Carmel, Ind.
 
With a 75.0 stroke average through the first event of the season, Torres is the Great Midwest league leader early on.
 
Torres is coming off a fantastic sophomore year when she was the GLIAC Championship medalist and competed at the NCAA Division II East Regional and finished ninth. As a freshman, she got her first NCAA Division II National Championship experience while earning all-conference accolades.
