Volleyball East/West Players of the Week (Sept. 12)

INDIANAPOLIS – Divisional Great Midwest Athletic Conference Volleyball Players of the Week were selected from Ursuline (East) and Findlay (West) on Monday afternoon.
 
Tournament action continued to be a theme in the second weekend of the season as the league schedule officially starts on Tuesday with four matchups.
 
Walsh has the top winning percentage in the East with a 6-2 record (.750) while an undefeated Findlay program is off to seven straight wins in the West.
 
East Division Player of the Week
Vikki Henderson

Henderson and her teammates enjoyed a 3-1 showing at the Shepherd Showdown with wins against Alderson Broaddus, Fort Hays State and Virginia State. The Arrows also played Lock Haven to a four-set final.
 
The sophomore averaged 4.06 kills per set and hit .338 over 16 frames while reaching double-digit kill totals in each match. Henderson was just two kills shy of matching her career-high total (21 vs. Charleston) with 19 in two contests.
 
She accumulated 65 kills on 145 total attack attempts. Henderson also completed four consecutive double-doubles with digs, including a weekend-best 22 in a five-set win against host Shepherd.
 
Henderson averaged 3.69 digs per set. On the season, she is averaging 4.10 kills per set to rank second in the Great Midwest with a .283 hitting percentage in eight matches played.
 
Henderson was a selection to the G-MAC All-Freshman Team in 2016.
 
West Division Player of the Week
Shelby Kin
Findlay

The Oilers garnered votes in the AVCA Top-25 Coaches Poll and continued to back up that billing with three more wins during an undefeated stretch in Pennsylvania.
 
Findlay toppled Mercyhurst, St. Michael’s and Gannon, in order to improve to 7-0 on the young season going into the conference schedule.
 
Kin averaged 3.30 kills per set and an even 1.0 blocks per set in a total of 10 frames played while hitting a strong .400 clip on 65 attack attempts.
 
She saved her best for last with a 14-kill, six-block effort against Gannon as UF handed the Golden Knights just their second loss of the year. Kin also tallied 11 kills in the tournament opener against Mercyhurst.
 
Through seven matches, Kin is averaging 2.36 kills per set and hitting .314 on the year. Her blocking average per game is 0.80.
