INDIANAPOLIS – Five individuals as voted upon by the league’s coaches were named to the final 2017 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Golf All-Conference Team.
The top five finishers (including ties) earned automatic placement on the all-conference team. Trevecca Nazarene completed another title run with the program’s fifth consecutive G-MAC Championship trophy.
Earning at-large selections to the all-conference team was
Julia Heser (Alderson Broaddus),
Evette Booker (Ohio Valley),
Mikayla Johnson (Malone),
Kaitlyn Brant (Malone) and
Randee Seevers (Alderson Broaddus).
The Trojans were led by senior
Alexa Rippy and a host of impressive underclassmen, who made waves in the tournament headlines with stellar play.
Rippy is currently competing at the NCAA DII East Super Regional being played at Glenmoor Country Club. She qualified for the field as an individual from a non-qualifying team since the sport of women’s golf does not include automatic qualifiers for the tournament field.
Each super regional from May 8-10 features 12 teams and six individuals from non-qualifying teams at each site. All participants compete through 54 holes of competition and the top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each super reigional will advance to the championships.
Future G-MAC member institution University of Findlay is serving as this year NCAA Division II Championship host at the Findlay Country Club.
Rippy was voted again by the coaches as G-MAC Player of the Year after leading the league in scoring average by a large margin at 75.22 through 18 rounds and nine events. The senior from Clarksville, Tenn., won five different events in the 2016-17 season and had a .942 win percentage against all players (405-25).
She had her best round of the season in the first 18 of the Phoenix Invitational. She had two rounds of even par or better and finished in the top 10 in eight of the nine tournaments played in.
Earning G-MAC Freshman of the Year honors was
Rachael McMahan of Trevecca Nazarene, who was tied for the first-day lead at the conference meet with Rippy. McMahan was second in the conference in scoring average at 80.31 and enjoyed her best round with a 73 (+1) in the first round of the G-MAC Championship.
By virtue of their finish at the G-MAC Championship the following student-athletes were already placed on the all-conference team: Rippy, McMahan,
Lexie Shaw (Trevecca Nazarene),
Lauren Reid (Ohio Valley) and
Melanie Smith (Malone).
