FINDLAY, Ohio – Competing as one of a dozen individuals in the field, Trevecca Nazarene senior Alexa Rippy put the finishing touches on her outstanding collegiate career at the NCAA Division II Championships.
Hosted by the University of Findlay, one of five incoming 2017-18 Great Midwest Athletic Conference institutions, Rippy played 72 holes at the Findlay Country Club among the nation’s best.
But Rippy had established herself in that category in the NCAA Championship Super Region 1, becoming the first Great Midwest golf student-athlete (male or female) to advance to the final stage.
As a three-time conference championship medalist and three-time Great Midwest Player of the Year, Rippy had earned her stripes for the chance to showcase her skills.
She finished fourth of 66 to qualify at the NCAA Championship Super Region 1 that was played in Canton, Ohio, and hosted by Walsh University
In four rounds at the NCAA Championships, Rippy would finish in a tie for 58th on the course that played to a yardage of 6,066 in a par-72 layout. There were 71 total competitors and 12 programs in the field as Barry University came back to stun Dallas Baptist for the team title.
Marie Coors of Saint Leo University, also competing as an individual, was the winner of medalist honors (74-75-75-71--295).
Rippy’s best round of the national event was in her second round with an 80 (+8) as she finished with a four-day total of 327 (83-80-81-83).
In the 2016-17 season, Rippy finished with a season scoring average of 76.00 through 25 rounds played. She also goes down as the conference’s career leader in scoring average, rounds of under par or better and medalist wins.
