Official NFCA Release

ROANOKE, Va. –
Cedarville junior Brianne O’Dell became the first Great Midwest Athletic Conference student-athlete to receive National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II All-American honors.

O’Dell, from Goshen, Ind., made the first team as a utility-non pitcher as 51 total student-athletes from 37 different institutions across the country earned NFCA All-American status.

The NFCA All-Americans were announced at the Sheraton Airport in Roanoke, Va., at the NCAA Division II Championship banquet on Wednesday.

With three years in the program, O’Dell will forego her final season on the softball to continue her pursuit of a pharmacy degree at Cedarville. She has left her imprint on the program and the conference record books.

O’Dell is the Great Midwest all-time career hits leader with 213, total bases with 298 and doubles with 51. She would have easily been the career RBI leader (129) with a year to go.

O’Dell helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a 33-20 record and a 21-4 regular-season championship run in the league schedule. She was picked as the G-MAC Player of the Year after putting up strong numbers at the plate and earned NFCA National Player of the Week this past spring.

O’Dell batted .430 in 53 games with 21 doubles, 77 hits, 40 runs scored and six home runs. She also had three triples and led the league with 57 RBI and 122 total bases.

Additionally, O’Dell was named the recipient of the 2017 NCCAA’s Softball Game Play 4 LIFE Character Award.

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America program is conducted by vote of member coaches.
