Second-Round Pairings
LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio - The Trevecca Nazarene combination of freshman Rachael McMahan and senior Alexa Rippy highlighted first-round play of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship on Monday.
McMahan and Rippy both posted rounds of 73 ( 1) to share the individual lead going into Tuesday's final 18 holes at Four Bridges Country Club.
The Trojans are in good position to make it five straight G-MAC Championship titles and are poised to extend what has evolved into a golf dynasty in both TNU men's and women's programs.
Trevecca Nazarene was also aided by an 85 from Lexie Shaw, who is tied for sixth. Brynn Craven is also part of the team score after shooting a 91 in her first round.
Rippy is in pursuit of her fifth first-place honor in 2016-17 alone; while her scorecard might be a little more adventurous than what she would like, the fire and drive was evident as she talked about the kinds of shots she left out on the course.
For now, McMahan is slightly more soft spoken and mixed in a birdie on the front and back nine while playing mistake-free golf to co-lead with Rippy.
TNU's first-round total of 322 outdistanced second-place Alderson Broaddus by 21 strokes despite a career-best round from 2016 G-MAC Freshman of the Year Savannah Jackson.
Jackson posted a score of 78 and bounced back from a triple bogey to begin the day. She made birdie on the par-3 15th hole before finishing her round with three consecutive pars to sit in solo third going into tomorrow.
Malone's Melanie Smith and Ohio Valley's Lauren Reid are both tied for fourth following respective rounds of 82.
Seniors shined as AB's Julia Heser and Ursuline's Kennedy Fay are firmly planted in the top 10 of the field. Fay was even surprised by her team with an Edible Arrangements basket on site to celebrate her final season as an Arrow.
Kentucky Wesleyan's Summer Newsome, competing as an individual, made a birdie on her first hole of the tournament. She finished with an 87 and is currently ninth in the individual standings.
Malone is currently in third (348) while Ohio Valley (356) and Ursuline (415) finish out the team scores with five teams counting.
The second and final round of the G-MAC Women's Golf Championship will tee off tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live scoring of the event is available through Golfstat.com.
