INDIANAPOLIS - Kentucky Wesleyan freshman Jaylin Tidwell and Cedarville junior Danielle Wolgamot were named Great Midwest Athletic Conference Softball Players of the Week on Monday.
The Panthers completed a perfect 4-0 scoreless weekend at home in conference play against Alderson Broaddus, holding the Battlers scoreless all weekend with wins of 4-0 and 3-0 on Friday and a pair of 8-0 wins on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets stormed to a series win against Trevecca Nazarene, taking three of four from the Trojans to sit on top of the league standings in first place.
Tidwell was 7-for-12 against the Battlers with two doubles, a home run, seven runs batted in and a 1.000 slugging percentage. Tidwell’s best game came in the second contest of Friday’s doubleheader when she went 2-for-3 with a double, home run and two runs batted in.
In 42 games, all of which are starts, Tidwell’s average on the season is one of the best in the conference at .425. She also has compiled six doubles, two home runs and is second in RBI with 38.
Wolgamot’s spectacular pitching continued this past weekend as Cedarville emerged as a legitimate title contender.
In 15.2 innings pitched, Wolgamot allowed only one earned run among two complete games, racked up two winning decisions vs. TNU and a 0.45 earned run average.
Wolgamot’s best performance of the weekend came in a 4-3 winning effort. In complete game fashion, Wolgamot gave up five hits and struck out two batters to tame the Trojans’ offense.
Wolgamot, in eleven games, eight of which are starts, is third in the G-MAC with a 1.77 earned run average and a 6-4 record. The 5-1 week for the Yellow Jackets put them into first place with two or three series remaining for each team.
