INDIANAPOLIS – Ohio Valley junior Kasey Williams and Alderson Broaddus sophomore Kelsey Hudson were named the first Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week on Monday.
The outdoor season officially kicked off this past weekend with several G-MAC institutions competing at the Charleston-hosted Golden Eagle Invitational. Williams was named G-MAC Track Athlete of the Week while Hudson earned G-MAC Field Athlete of the Week recognition.
With temperatures still climbing this spring, student-athletes around the league turned in some strong performances to get the outdoor campaign underway.
Williams turned in a first place and runner-up effort in the 100-meter dash and as a member of the 4x100-meter relay unit.
Williams clocked a 12.78 in the 100-meter dash, almost breaking into the top-10 outdoor times in league history. She also ran in the 200-meter dash and finished fifth.
The 4x1 relay was ran with Janessa Adams, Kelsey Johnson, Camdyn Starkey and Williams, anchoring the race. The Fighting Scots crossed the line with a time of 52.76.
Hudson made a strong impression in throws competition with a first, second and third-place finish, in different events.
Also a member of the Battlers’ women’s basketball program, Hudson won the hammer throw with a toss of 37.96m. She was second in the discus with 31.68m and tossed the shot put nearly 11 meters for third.
Hudson also competed in the weight throw and shot put at the G-MAC Indoor Championships in Cedarville.
