INDIANAPOLIS – Malone senior guard Rachel Goddard was named the final Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for the 2016-17 season.
Goddard earned the weekly conference honor for the third time this year and second time in the past three weeks.
The Pioneers made a statement in the G-MAC Championship in Pepper Pike, Ohio, winning the tournament title as the No. 2 seed to clinch the No. 8 seed in the NCAA Championship Midwest Regional that will be played at Ashland.
In a 63-58 semifinal win over No. 3 seed Cedarville on Friday, in which the Pioneers overcame a 12-point deficit, Goddard was brilliant, matching a season-high with 29 points to go along with five assists and a career-high four steals on the defensive end.
Goddard did most of her damage from behind the arc where she was a remarkable 7-for-7 on three-pointers. The seven three-pointers also marked a career-high total.
In Saturday's final over top seed Ursuline, Goddard answered the call once again, tallying a game-high 21 points while handing out seven assists.
She averaged 25 points per game and made 10-of-12 from long range in just two games.
