3.28.17

INDIANAPOLIS – Cedarville junior Brianne O’Dell and Ursuline senior Brittany Humbel were named Great Midwest Athletic Conference Softball Players of the Week on Monday.

O’Dell and Humbel both lead their respective teams as league play officially opened up around the G-MAC. Cedarville swept a four-game series against Malone while Ursuline split a four-game set against Alderson Broaddus.

O’Dell was named G-MAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this spring and Humbel earned pitcher of the week honors for the first time in 2017.

In four games, O’Dell hit .500 (7-for-14) at the plate with four extra-base hits and six RBI. She had three doubles, legged out a triple and also scored four times.

O’Dell bumped her season average up to .432 and has nine doubles, four home runs and 24 RBI, in 22 games this spring.

Humbel was a strikeout machine in the circle in three games against Alderson Broaddus. Despite being saddled with a tough, one-run loss in the series opener, she racked up a dozen strikeouts in 7.2 innings pitched.

The next game she still pitched two scoreless innings for a save and wrapped up her series with a six inning, six-strikeout effort for the winning decision.

Humble pitched a total of 15.2 innings and struck out 19 while just walking one. She gave up three runs on 12 hits and lowered her season ERA to 2.43.
