INDIANAPOLIS – Malone junior Melanie Smith was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Athlete of the Week on Monday.
 
The Pioneers won the team title at the Ursuline Invitational as Smith led the way with a fourth-place finish overall.
 
Smith, a junior out of Hartville, Ohio, finished the tournament in fourth place among a field of 33 golfers.
 
In unfavorable conditions, Smith carded an 87 on Saturday before posting an 89 on Sunday. Her two-day total of 176 gave her four consecutive top-five finishes and six overall top-five finishes this season.

Her season scoring average through 11 rounds now is at 86.63, good for fifth in the conference so far.
