3.14.17

INDIANAPOLIS – Cedarville junior Brianne O’Dell and Malone freshman Isabella Roberts were tagged Great Midwest Athletic Conference Softball Players of the Week on Monday.

O’Dell earned G-MAC Player of the Week honors while Roberts was the G-MAC Pitcher of the Week.

The Yellow Jackets played 12 total games in the past seven days with O’Dell a major piece of the offensive output after going 15-for-37 at the plate.

O’Dell has already established herself quietly among the league’s best in the short history of the G-MAC and another strong week at the plate only reinforced those numbers.

O’Dell slugged three home runs, legged out five doubles and plated 13 RBI, while batting .405 to boost her career average up to .382, currently second in conference history.

Against Quincy on Monday, March 6, O’Dell was a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI. She homered and scored twice. In the next game on the same day, she drove in four, homered and doubled.

O’Dell doubled twice as part of a 2-fo-4 effort against incoming G-MAC member school Walsh the next day.

She had at least one hit in eight of the Yellow Jackets’ 12 games and is now batting .442 on the year through 16 games.

Roberts is acclimating herself quickly to the collegiate level after appearing in seven games and starting five through the past week. She recorded three winning decisions and a save while averaging more than a strikeout per inning.

She had a combined six shutout innings with 11 strikeouts against league members Alderson Broaddus and Ohio Valley in North Myrtle Beach.

Roberts finished off a 3-0 Malone win against Mount Aloysius with three scoreless innings and four strikeouts.

Roberts also worked the winning decision against Shaw to close out the trip. She went six strong innings with four strikeouts and two runs allowed on four hits. The Pioneers enjoyed a 6-2 record in games she pitched to begin the spring.
