INDIANAPOLIS – Kentucky Wesleyan duo Alexis Mullen and Autumn Grady were named the first set of Great Midwest Athletic Conference Softball Players of the Week on Monday.
Mullen, a freshman infielder, earned G-MAC Player of the Week merit while Grady was pronounced the G-MAC Pitcher of the Week to open the spring season.
The Panthers debuted with four regional games, two apiece against Bellarmine and Findlay in Louisville, Ky.
Mullen opened plenty of eyes around the league with her batting line through four games. She was 9-for-14 with two home runs, a pair of doubles and four RBI to help anchor the offense.
Mullen batted cleanup in the KWC order, a spot held down by former catcher Kaci Ovelgoenner, and instantly delivered in run-producing situations. Her extra-base pop will have opposing pitchers on their heels moving forward.
Mullen recorded two hits in each of KWC’s four games, including a 3-for-3 effort with a home run and double against Bellarmine to finish the weekend.
She actually homered twice on Sunday, leaving the park in an 11-2 KWC win earlier in the afternoon against future conference member Findlay.
Grady was the benefactor of ample run production against the Oilers of UF, pitching six strong innings to get the Panthers into the winning column.
She struck out five hitters and was touched for just two runs on six hits. Her ERA stands at 2.33 early following her first outing of the spring.
The sophomore hurler helps to form a potent rotation for KWC with plenty of experience that includes Casey Smith, Maci Brown and Jessica Carmon.
