AUSTIN, Texas – Ohio Valley senior goalkeeper Carlos Rubio added another postseason award to his already substantial collection of hardware with CoSIDA Academic All-America ® of the Year honors for Division II men's soccer.

The senior was named the CoSIDA All-America of the Year after helping lead Ohio Valley to the 2017 Great Midwest Men’s Soccer Championship and a Sweet 16 run through the NCAA Championship bracket.

The Great Midwest Defensive Player of the Year led the conference in save percentage as well as leading all of Division II with 14 shutouts. He also finished out his career as the all-time leader in both wins and shutouts.

The Fighting Scots finished the year with a 17-2-4 record, with Rubio playing every minute in goal. A native of Valencia, Spain, he posted a Division II-best 14 shutouts while allowing just 11 goals for a 0.46 GAA.

The sports management major posted a 3.92 GPA on his way to leading the Fighting Scots to a No. 6 national ranking, top seed in the Midwest Region and regular-season/tournament conference trophies.

Rubio continues to pick up regional and national honors as he has recently been named to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference First Team, D2CCA All-Midwest Region First Team, D2CCA All-American Second Team, United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region First Team and the United Soccer Coaches All-American Second Team.
