Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week (Dec. 4)

12.4.17

INDIANAPOLIS – Walsh sophomore guard Chandler Vaudrin (Uniontown, OH / Lake HS) was selected as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week as announced on Monday.

Vaudrin put up near-triple double numbers across the board as the Cavaliers (5-1, 2-0 G-MAC) enjoyed a 3-0 week that included two Great Midwest wins.

Walsh extended its win streak to four straight and is one of three unbeatens in the league standings through the first weekend of conference play. Findlay is also 2-0 while Ohio Dominican won its league debut on the road.

The Cavaliers beat Indiana Tech before concluding their six-game home stand with wins against Davis & Elkins on Thursday and Alderson Broaddus on Saturday. D&E (Edmund Parker) and AB (Brandon Willis) have both had Great Midwest Athletes of the Week in the season already.

Already with one triple-double this season, Vaudrin was a rebound shy of his second one against Indiana Tech in a non-conference contest. He finished 7-of-13 from the field with 17 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds.

In Walsh’s first conference victory against the Senators, Vaudrin contributed nine points, 11 rebounds and six assists.

Versus Alderson Broaddus, he filled up the stat sheet more with a double-double as the sophomore was a crisp 8-of-14 shooting with 22 points, 10 rebounds and five more assists.

His three-game averages leveled out to 16 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists per game. He shot over 53 percent from the field and also averaged three steals per contest.

Walsh features the league’s top-scoring offense averaging 87.5 points per game and has been beating opponents by a margin of nearly 23 points. At 43.2 per game, the Cavaliers are also the best on the boards.

Vaudrin is the league leader in both assists and steals, ranks 10th in the Great Midwest in scoring and comes in at second in rebounding.
