Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week (Dec. 27)

12.27.17

INDIANAPOLIS – Ursuline junior guard Paige Salisbury (Brunswick, OH / Brunswick HS / Kent State) was selected the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week over the holiday layover on Wednesday.

A handful of conference contests were completed as teams prepare to ring in the new calendar year with about two thirds of the league schedule left to be played.

Ursuline (8-3, 5-0 G-MAC) maintained its hold on second place in the Great Midwest women’s standings with a road victory in Nashville at Trevecca. The Arrows are now just one of two unbeaten in the league standings with Findlay, which won its 10th straight against Alderson Broaddus.

Salisbury joins teammates Laney Lewis (twice) and Camille Gist as Arrows to win conference weekly honors in the 2017-18 campaign.

Salisbury, a transfer from Division I Kent State, is another talented product from the Mid-American Conference (MAC) in the Great Midwest after Malone featured Miami (OH) transfers Rachel Goddard and Hannah McCue in the Pioneers’ 2017 tournament championship run.

Salisbury tied for the team lead with 17 points against Trevecca as she has been part of head coach Shannon Sword’s starting five for all 11 games this year.

In 37 minutes, the 5-9 guard contributed 7-of-14 shooting, seven rebounds, four assists and a pair of blocked shots. She made a pair of three-pointers as Ursuline made 10 as a team for the game.

Salisbury is now averaging 9.1 points per game on the year but has seen a slight uptick in her shooting percentages and overall numbers since the Arrows started league play.

Among the league leaders, she is currently tops in assist-to-turnover ratio and ranks second in assists per game.
