INDIANAPOLIS – Lake Erie sophomore guard Jordan Humphrey (Columbus, OH / Westerville South HS) was tabbed as the new Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Humphrey was a key contributor as the Storm (8-3, 3-0 G-MAC) ventured into away territory on the road to defeat Alderson Broaddus and Davis & Elkins.
LEC and Findlay are the only two unbeatens left in the league standings. Lake Erie, despite having played two fewer conference contests than the Oilers, extended its win streak under head coach Kyle Conley to five straight.
Humphrey was almost perfect shooting from the floor as he compiled averages of 18.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg and was 14-of-17 on all field goals. He also made seven three-point baskets.
The Storm went to Philippi on Thursday and Humphrey was on fire with 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting. He made four shots from three-point territory and grabbed five rebounds to go with an assist in 25 minutes.
Replicating that type of efficiency isn’t easy, but the sophomore sharpshooter was able to do that against D&E as Lake Erie finished its swing through West Virginia. Humphrey was missed just one of his six shots and was a perfect 3-for-3 from deep while making both free throws attempted.
Humphrey posted 15 points and eight rebounds against the Senators in just 21 minutes on the floor.
Humphrey is now close to averaging double figures on the season at 9.5 ppg. In conference play alone, he has elevated his game to the next level with 14.3 ppg on over 70 percent shooting in three contests.
